The corner of London which is now firmly Welsh
There's a growing Welsh community at Gallagher Premiership club Harlequins
Once upon a time, if you longed for a piece of Welsh respite over the Severn Bridge, you’d have to find solace at Old Deer Park.
London Welsh were that little piece of Cymru in the English capital for so long, but the notion of Welsh internationals strutting their stuff in Richmond looks considerably different now.
It’s no longer London Welsh, more Harlequins Welsh these days, as more and more Welshmen feel the need to pull on the famous ‘Quins quarters’ (made up of chocolate brown, French grey, magenta and light blue for those of you unsure what to paint the living room next).
Right now, Quins have Wyn Jones, Dillon Lewis, Jarrod Evans, Leigh Halfpenny and Bryn Bradley on their playing books. In the academy, there’s also the likes of Seb Driscoll, Tom Golder and Jonny Green coming through.
Welsh tighthead legend Adam Jones is on the coaching team, as is adopted Welshman and former Cardiff coach Danny Wilson. Another ex-Arms Park coach, Billy Millard, is also at Twickenham Stoop as director of rugby.
There’s a few Cardiff Met graduates too, with Alex Dombrandt, Luke Northmore and Roma Zheng having all studied in the Welsh capital. England No. 8 Dombrandt even played for Wales U20s.
In the women’s team, there’s a strong Welsh group - with the likes of Jade Mullen, Lisa Neumann, Abbie Fleming, Carys Phillips, Alex Callender and Kayleigh Powell all on the books.
Hell, only a male voice choir and the signing of Tal Selley are standing between them and being a fifth region at this point.
