Welsh rugby transfer news: Scarlets in for Aussies, Cardiff consider Thomas move and new offer for Wales star
The Welsh regions are working hard behind the scenes to recruit and retain players for next season. Here’s the latest news on the deals that are being looked at…
The Dragons have tabled an improved contract offer to Wales back-rower Taine Basham in a bid to keep him away from the clutches of Welsh rivals the Scarlets along with a host of English clubs including Saracens.
Basham is out of contract at the end of the season but if he were to leave Wales he would become ineligible to represent his country under the controversial 25-cap law. At one stage it looked as if the 24-year-old was going to head west but the Dragons have upped the ante in a bid to keep Basham at Rodney Parade.
But nothing has been signed yet and Basham has a big decision to make. Dragons boss Dai Flanagan is also expected to shake up his coaching team next season with head of performance Dan Baugh set to join Georgia.
